Why We Became Vegetarian

We want to share a few reasons why we decided to adopt a vegetarian diet and talk about all of the benefits we have seen from doing so.

Our hope is giving some insights and deeper knowledge on the subject if you happen to be contemplating on making the switch!

Why We Became Vegetarian

To begin with, if you haven’t heard or read some of the bullet-points from the World Health Organization’s findings on the cancer causing effects of certain types of meat, click here to learn more.

Although Kelli and I both had been eating a vegetarian diet for 2 years prior to that report, it all but clarified our beliefs and decisions on why we made the switch.

By all means the negative effects of eating meatΒ were not the only considerations in our change, but had a significant amount of effect on our decisions.

We Feel Much Better

Ever since we changed our dietary patters 4 years ago I have to say personally I feel more energy, my digestion has thoroughly improved and become more regular and I rarely, if ever, have the feeling of being stuffed or overly full.

Really overall cooking and preparing food has become much more easier and simpler as well as we never have to worry about buying and storing any meat and keeping it fresh, never have to struggle with cross contamination and don’t ever worry about food poisoning from under-cooked meats.Β

We Still Eat Enough Protein

One of the main deterrents or concerns from some people who are wanting to make the change to become vegetarian is, ‘will I eat enough protein?’

Now from a few years of experience, I can tell you that if you make the decision to be a healthy vegetarian, you can easily eat more than enough protein!

Plant-Based Foods High In Protein

Our favorite sources of vegetarian protein:

  • Lentils
  • Beans (Black, Pinto, etc)
  • Tofu
  • Seitan
  • Chickpeas (Garbonzo Beans)
  • Eggs

There are many more but these are the majority that we focus our diet around when it comes to protein!
