Why Do Foods High In Protein Help With Weight Loss?
Protein is an essential part of a healthy diet, that fact is firmly established. It provides our bodies with so many positive benefits and fuels almost all of our daily activities. Common opinion can be at times that protein is only associated with weight gain or building muscle.
Protein can actually extremely benefit weight loss as well, there just isn’t as much talk of this specific benefit.
Lean proteins (which we will discuss in the next section) can help satisfy hunger and leaving you satiated or feeling satisfied after a meal for much longer. This is a big reason because overeating is caused by inadequate amounts of proteins or nutrients.
For example, if you were to have a common breakfast (Latte and a Chocolate Muffin) all you are feeding the body is simple carbohydrates and caffeine which will be burned quickly for a rush of energy and then an hour or so later your blood sugar will drop extremely low leading to fatigue and hunger.
This is where lean protein can come into help because it fills your body up, satisfies your hunger and leaves you staying fuller longer and not having mid-day cravings or late-night hunger.
The second reason for its help in weight loss is it helps build and sustain lean muscle mass. Because protein helps with building muscle, this is in turn will boost your metabolism because of the increased muscle mass. In effect this will help you burn calories and burn fat at a more rapid rate leading to healthy weight loss and increased levels of energy.
Proteins also help maintain and balance blood sugar levels because they’re slow to digest. Maintaining blood sugar levels also will help prolong hunger levels and aid in preventing afternoon crashes or energy loss.

Most types of beans such as black beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, soybeans and garbanzo beans all tend to be high in protein AND in fiber.
Beans are an exceptional type of food because of all of their benefits and they are packed with nutrients. They offer two superb benefits or weight loss with high-protein which as said above satisfies hunger and sustains lean muscle.
Being high in fiber they also help move along and speed up the digestive process, properly distributing the nutrients and getting rid of toxins in the body which once again promotes a healthy body.
Lentils are also a type of bean but they are so full of nutrients and positive benefits that they need to be mentioned alone. This is one of my favorite types of plant-based protein that offers so many benefits and are very easy to cook or prepare.
First off lentils are again extremely high in fiber, even HIGHER than the previously mentioned beans. They also contain both soluble and insoluble fibers (More Info) which helps the digestive system while also helping sustain and balance blood sugar levels.
One cup of lentils (approx. 240 calories) contains nearly 36% of the daily recommendation for protein! (Source)
