Go For a Walk, Jog or Run
Yes I know this one isn’t very glamorous but it’s still one of the better ways for someone to get in shape. Jogging or running will help you train your cardiovascular system and burn calories.
Even more importantly it will start to train your body to burn fat instead of glucose, like weightlifting does. Cardio is a very easy way to get in shape without a gym and will force you to get outside and enjoy nature!
Even a 2o or 30 minute walk around the block is a great way to get in shape especially if you’re just beginning your fitness journey. A great way to work up to jogging or running.
Pick Up a Sport or Outdoor Activity
As a former college basketball player this is my favorite way to get in shape without a gym. Back in my playing days I never needed a gym as the court was my place to stay in shape.
Other ideas are tennis, a softball league, golf or biking. Biking is an awesome way to get in shape, maybe one of the best. Check out my friend Dalton and I after a bike ride explaining the benefits of biking..
The sport I have picked up in the last couple of years has been Disc Golf. I’ve come to love the game and try to play a few times per week. It keeps me outside and requires lots of walking that include hills.
Just find something you enjoy doing outside that requires some physical exertion and you will be on your way to getting in shape without a gym.
